Icon of the history of Cava de’ Tirreni

An icon of the city’s history,
a prominent personality in the national and international field.

In the popular imagination, Mamma Lucia has always remained a beloved presence and the media impact of his figure was strong.

Newspaper articles, books, publications of various kinds, paintings, sculptures, poems (even a poem in Latin, Lucia Mater, by Prof. Mario Pinto), videos, television broadcasts, documentaries, public initiatives, prizes, school initiatives, calendars, over time they have illustrated his work helping to preserve it in the memory and in the hearts of people.

At the end of the war operations

throughout the vast area of the landing grounds they remained perilously littered with corpses, as well as unexploded bombs and mines.
Their removal, which the authorities had begun to take an interest in anyway, was a delicate and risky process. Despite everything, but fully trusting in divine help, Mamma Lucia developed the desire and courage to venture into recovery. The final decision was taken above all following a premonitory dream, as she herself recounts in an autograph text: “8 soldiers came to me in a dream and with their hands wet with blood they said to me they shouted take us to our mothers…”.
